The history of the Jewish religious communities in Bohemia and Moravia goes back to the early Middle Ages. Prague was most likely to be the first stop of Jewish merchants. The Jewish community in Prague represented already a significant cultural centre at the beginning of the 13th century. The Jewish ghetto is located in the Old Town of Prague near the Old Town Square. The following monuments have survived on the area of the former Prague Ghetto - the State Jewish Museum, the Old-New Synagogue, the Klausen Synagogue, the High Synagogue, the Pinkas Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue, the Jewish Town Hall and the Old Jewish Cementary. But not only Prague was the place where Jews settled. You can find several reminders on Jewish settlement in many towns and village of our country.
