PRAGUE

the capital of the Czech Republic is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe

Because of its history and precious cultural and architectonic heritage, Prague is one of the most attractive sites in Europe and not only for its geographic location is called “ Heart of Europe”.

Prague lies in the centre of Bohemia on the river Vltava and archaeological finds confirm the first settlement by Slavs (the ancestors of the Czechs) in the 5th century here.

Prague has been an important centre of the society and politics and a cross-road of various cultures for centuries. This cultural variety contributed to the creation of one of the most unique urban entities in the world. Prague is considered as one of the richest treasuries of world architecture the exceptionality of which has been acknowledged by entering the Prague historical town reserve in the UNESCO List of the World Heritage.

The historical core of Prague is situated astride the Vltava river and it is a specimen of all artistic styles and movements and consists of 6 parts - formerly independent urban units which were unified in the 18th century. They are as follows : Stare Mesto (Old Town), Josefov ( the preserved part of the former Jewish Town - today a part of the Old Town), Nove Mesto (New Town ) , Mala Strana ( Lesser Town), Hradcany (Prague Castle and its surroundings) and Vysehrad. Naturally, most of the historical monuments, museums and galleries are concentrated right there.
